Big Dog Forest
This is mainly a coniferous forest of 1,097 hectares. Management of the forest is focused on timber production, biodiversity and water quality. The main soil types in the forest range from deep peat to peaty gley.
Activities
The Ulster Way passes through the forest. There is car parking on the Knockmore Road.
There may be restricted access to parts of the forest occasionally for forest works so adhere to safety signage.
About this forest
Named after two distinct hills within the forest, Big Dog and Little Dog, the forest is included in the UNESCO Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark. The West Fermanagh Scarplands Area of Special Scientific Interest covers part of the forest to the east.
How to get there
The car park is next to the Knockmore Road about eight miles from Derrygonnelly village, at the south side of the Doagh Road between Derrygonnelly and Garrison.
