Change, cancel or view your practical driving test online
Your appointment notice will tell you the last day you can change or cancel and refund your practical driving test appointment online. If you change your appointment by this date, the payment you've already made is carried over to the new date.
Before you start
The online booking system is available to motorcycles (category AM, A1, A2 and A) and private cars (category B). If you're in one of these categories and have booked a practical test, you can change, cancel or view your test slot using the link below.
For appointments made at short notice, you may not receive an appointment letter before the date of your test. To find out the last day you can change and rebook or cancel your appointment see the table below.
To change, cancel or view your practical driving test appointment you'll need:
- the booking reference number
- your driving licence number
- your date of birth
- access to the email address entered when the original appointment was made – a six digit authentication code will be sent to that address and it is valid for 20 minutes, you will need to use it to view or edit your appointment - if the code expires you can get another code
If you need to cancel your appointment at short notice due to a positive Coronavirus (COVID-19) test or other respiratory infection, contact the practical driving test booking line.
It is strongly recommended that you wear a face covering during the test. This also applies to any observers or interpreters present. Face coverings will still be available and may be worn by examiners.

If the date of your test is close to a public or bank holiday, the above 'last cancellation date' does not apply. The bank/ public holiday should be counted as an additional day for rebooking your test.
Book, change or cancel by phone
You can book, change or cancel your practical driving test for a private car or motorcycle by phone. Lines are open from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm Monday to Friday. Calls are charged at local rate.
You don't need an application form but it is advisable to have your provisional driving licence, your theory test certificate and credit or debit card details handy when making the call.
Northern Ireland residency
If you want to take a theory or practical driving test in Northern Ireland (NI), you must be normally resident in Northern Ireland. If you have a GB provisional licence and want to take a motorcycle, car, bus or lorry theory test in NI, before booking your test you'll need to complete a residency declaration form and send it to DVA with proof you're resident in Northern Ireland.
