How OSNI data is licensed

Innovators and developers

An innovator licence gives free access to Ordnance Survey of Northern Ireland (OSNI) Geographic Information for product development. If a developer creates a product they want to sell, they must sign a value added reseller (VAR) agreement with LPS. They need to sign the agreement before they sell any products.

Value added resellers

A value added reseller (VAR) licenses geographic digital data from LPS and creates a product by adding value to the digital data. When a VAR creates a product, they pay LPS a royalty or fee for using  the digital data.

Solution provider's licence

A solutions provider licenses geographic digital data from LPS to create data or a digital solution for one organisation's internal business usage.

Distributors

LPS licenses distributors to provide digital data or sell OSNI branded paper mapping.

Wholesalers and retailers

A wholesaler buys large amounts of OSNI branded paper mapping from LPS and sells that mapping to retailers.

A retailer buys large amounts of OSNI branded paper mapping  from LPS or an LPS wholesaler. The retailer sells individual maps or map sets to the public in a shop or store.
