Loughermore Forest
Loughermore Forest is predominantly an upland, coniferous forest covering over 1,340 hectares.
Activities
There are no facilities for recreational activities. The public are welcome to visit on foot.
There may be restrictions on access to parts of the forest from time to time due to forest operations. Pay attention to safety signage.
About this forest
The current main species are sitka spruce and lodgepole pine. There are also many corridors of mixed broadleaves to break up the conifer blocks and provide a hardwood habitat for fauna and flora.
The wind farm can be seen to the south of the Baranilt Road leading to Loughermore Forest.
Some of the forest blocks are included in the North Sperrins Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. From the higher points of the forest there are extensive views over Lough Foyle and the Donegal hills.
How to get there
From Limavady, take the B69 Baranailt Road towards Claudy. After the wind farm the forest car park is second exit on the right.
From Claudy, take the B69 Baranailt Road towards Limavady. Continue driving until you see a mature forest on the right. The car park is left after the next bridge.
