ICT officer
There are lots of roles in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) throughout Health and Social Care.
Opportunities
ICT workers are needed in a range of settings to fill a variety of roles, including:
- ICT management and system development
- project management
- business management of ICT
- IT practitioners, including web designers
- hardware and software engineers
- helpdesk support
- voice and data networks
- IT trainer
- ICT security and confidentiality
For many of the roles within ICT, it is an advantage to have a degree or HND or equivalent in computing.
Skills required
Interpersonal and problem-solving skills are particularly important.

Career pathway
The majority of graduates take up posts associated with software design and implementation. Some go on to management accountancy and finance careers, while many work within ICT support teams.
There are also many different opportunities for postgraduate study in computing or a related area.
Professional recognition
The Honours degrees are fully accredited by the British Computer Society, which is a nominating body of the Engineering Council. Membership could lead to Chartered Engineer status.
