Security officer
Security staff have a vital role in ensuring that hospitals are safe and welcoming environments for patients, visitors and staff. They also protect buildings and valuable equipment. Their main duties include patrolling, responding to incidents, controlling traffic and operating CCTV equipment.
Skills required
Security officers should:
- be mature, responsible and honest
- be very observant
- have good communication skills
- be able to handle sensitive situations in a confidential way
- be generally fit and healthy
- be able to write short reports
- have confidence to challenge and engage people when necessary
- be able to make decisions quickly
Entry requirements
There are no minimum qualifications, although Trusts may set specific requirements for the role.
Career pathway
With experience, security officers may be promoted to more senior jobs such as supervisor, and could become a security manager.
