Late Night Art East at PRONI
To celebrate Valentine’s Day, PRONI is hosting a special Late-Night Art East event on the evening of Thursday 13 February. This event will take place between 6.00 pm and 8.00 pm and will include a variety of free workshops and activities to explore.
Activities will include a behind-the-scenes tour of PRONI, a tour of the Oughley Shed Exhibition, a hand-embroidered flax flower workshop, a mindful journaling workshop and document display themed around love and art.
Hand-embroidered Flax Flower Workshop with Heather Richardson
Enjoy the traditional craft of hand embroidery at this relaxing workshop. Working on Irish linen fabric, you’ll use simple embroidery techniques to stitch a pretty flax flower, creating your own mini piece of textile art to take home with you.
Textile artist and writer Heather Richardson will guide you through this beginner-friendly workshop. All materials will be provided, including a small embroidery hoop to make and display your work.

Introduction to Mindful Journaling with The Paper Sparrow
Journaling is a versatile medium that draws on many crafts such as scrapbooking, design, illustration, and writing. You can use your journal as a planner, memory keeping aid, mental health record and productivity tracker. In this workshop with The Paper Sparrow, Ian Megrath, attendees will explore using your journal as a tool for organisation and reflection in a creative and personal way.
This free workshop will run from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm and a selection of supplies will be available for use in class. Students to bring their own pens, stationery and ephemera as they choose however there will be limited materials available on site. No booking required.
The Oughley Shed Exhibition with Lorna Gough
Explore the Oughley Shed exhibition at PRONI with designer and artist Lorna Gough.
The Oughley Shed exhibition launched in November 2024 and expresses the duality of the life of David Strain, through one of its most important aspects: his country shed. As part of Queer NI project, this installation was developed by Lorna Gough, using research by Dr Tom Hulme from Queens University and Leanne McCormick from Ulster University.
Lorna will be available from 6.00 pm to 8.00 pm to discuss the exhibition details, explore the life of David Strain and answer any questions regarding his country shed. No booking required.

Behind-the-scenes Tour of PRONI
This guided tour will include stops at the exhibition space, Search Room, Reading Room and Reprographics Studio as well as exploring some of the artwork held in the stores. Additionally, PRONI staff members will be available to advise you on how to search for records at the archive and will be given the opportunity to view some historical documents on the themes of love and art available in the PRONI Reading Room.
