How to apply for your vocational licence
Before you apply for a provisional licence to drive lorries, buses or minibuses you must have a valid, full driving licence. You also need to fill in a medical examination report (DLM1) and once you're over 45 you'll need to resubmit this form every five years until you are 65.
Applying for a provisional vocational driving licence
You will need to fill in the DL2 application form and the medical report form DLM1. If you are applying for a passenger-carrying vehicle entitlement (PCV), that is buses or minibuses, a Basic Disclosure Certificate is also needed.

Adding categories to a valid full licence
If you hold a valid full driving licence and want to add provisional entitlement to drive large vehicles, minibuses or buses, you will need to fill in the DL2 application form and the DLM1 medical report form.
If you are applying for a passenger-carrying vehicle entitlement (PCV), that is buses or minibuses, a Basic Disclosure Certificate is also needed.

Renewing your lorry, bus, minibus licence
About three months before your licence expires, you will receive a reminder notice with information on how to renew your licence online. You can also renew your licence by filling in and returning a DL2 form.
Your new licence will be valid for five years.
