Travelling to Northern Ireland from Ukraine with pets
Information for Ukrainians travelling to Northern Ireland with a pet. It includes details about health checks, quarantine rules and important contact information.
Health checks
People fleeing the conflict will not have been able to do full health preparations needed for pets, including for rabies.
A process for people bringing their pets from Ukraine has been put in place by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA).
DAERA will grant prompt approvals and make the necessary quarantine arrangements. The costs will be covered by the UK government.
Quarantine rules
Before arriving you or your carrier should contact DAERA to make an application. DAERA will assess the application and grant approval if appropriate.
The maximum stay in quarantine for a pet which has received no rabies treatment is four months.
Pets will be considered case by case, and those that have already received some treatment will spend less time in quarantine.
