Telling DVA about medical conditions if you drive a taxi

If an existing condition worsens or you develop a new condition or disability that may affect your ability to drive a taxi, you must tell the Driver & Vehicle Agency (DVA) Passenger Transport Licensing Division (PTLD).

When to tell PTLD

The medical standards of fitness to drive for a living are higher than those for ordinary drivers. If your doctor, in line with these standards, has advised that you should stop driving for a living, you must surrender your taxi driver licence right away, do not wait until your taxi driver licence is due for renewal.

You can re-apply for its restoration when your doctor is confident that you will meet the standards needed.

How to tell PTLD

You should give details of your medical condition or disability so that PTLD can send you a medical questionnaire if you apply to have your licence re-instated.

Online

You can surrender your taxi driver licence online through your DVA Online account. You will need to send your taxi driver licence and badge to PTLD.
