Horse riding in forests
Northern Ireland's forests offer a variety of opportunities for horse riding. There are waymarked trails in some forest areas and other forests may be available for special events. To hold special events you need to get a licence or you'll need a day permit.
Permit/licence
Before you go horse riding in the forest, you'll need to get a day permit. But, if you're from a riding club and wish to hold special events in a forest, you'll need to get a licence.

Horse riding in forests code
Horse riders should:
- ride only on trails marked for horse riding
- give way to walkers
- obey all warning signs
- keep clear of forest operations
- not build jumps or create their own trails
- remember that forestry vehicles, including lorries, may be using the roads at any time and also on weekends
