Apply for or renew a taxi driver licence

Before you start

To access DVA Online you must have a nidirect account and have had your identity verified. You will then be able to log in to the service and link your licences. To find out more about identity assurance and the documents you need to verify your identity see:

If you have a driver licence issued outside Northern Ireland you should email your contact details to: TaxiandBusLicensing@infrastructure-ni.gov.uk for advice.

You can renew or make changes through DVA Online. Customer guidance is available at:

Tax check

If you need to renew your taxi driver licence or it expired less than 12 months ago, you’ll need a tax code when applying online to renew your licence. For more information go to: Assessing an application for a taxi driver licence 

Additional information on applying

You should apply for your TDL at least 16 weeks before you wish to start driving, to allow time for the application to be processed.

First time applicants and those renewing their licence more than two years after expiry of last licence must have passed a taxi driver practical test.

Renewal taxi driver licence applicants must have finished the necessary periodic training.

The fee for a first time application is £140 and £105 for a renewal application. More information and guidance on the application process can be found at:
