The General Register Office for Northern Ireland (GRONI) is within the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency and is responsible for the:
- administration of marriage and civil partnership law
- registration of births, deaths, marriages, civil partnerships and adoptions
- maintenance of registration records
- production of birth, deaths, marriage, civil partnership and adoption certificates when you ask

Opening hours
Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 4.00 pm (excluding public, bank and all Northern Ireland government holidays).
The 8A and 8D Translink Metro buses run regularly from Belfast city centre, Donegall Square East and Great Victoria Street to the Stranmillis area. You should get off the bus at Stranmillis Mews opposite Riddel Hall, and it is a short walk to Colby House.

For those coming by rail, Colby House is a 15-minute walk from the City Hospital or Botanic stations. Rail timetables are also available on the Translink website.
If you are coming by car, there are several spaces allocated for GRONI customers.
Access to the car park is via the barrier controlled access next to the piazza. Visitors can contact the reception staff within Colby House by pressing the call button on the barrier post. Reception staff can then raise the barrier boom remotely.
Access for visitors with a disability
Designated accessible parking bays are provided in the visitors' car park for visitors with a disability. The office is wheelchair-friendly, with no steps, a low-level counter with knee recess, and an accessible toilet. There is also an induction loop system for those with hearing difficulties.
