Help to Buy mortgage guarantee scheme
The Help to Buy mortgage guarantee scheme closed to new loans on 31 December 2016. The information on this page is for people who already have a mortgage through the Help to Buy scheme.
Change of circumstances
If your circumstances change, you should contact your lender as explained in the terms and conditions of the mortgage.
Mortgage payments
Under the scheme, the borrower is responsible for paying the mortgage. The scheme doesn't guarantee your payments. The guarantee protects the lender against any losses.
Problems paying your mortgage
If you don't make payments on a Help to Buy supported mortgage, you could lose your home.
If you're finding it difficult to pay your mortgage, you should contact your lender immediately. Your lender can give you advice.
Forbearance agreement
If you're behind with your mortgage payments, the lender may arrange a forbearance agreement with you. This agreement allows you to repay any missed payments.
Repossessing your home
The mortgage lender can take action to repossess your home.
